Drawing Machines

We began by looking at machines, how we can distance ourselves from our artmaking practice, and it was a lot more challenging than initially anticipated. We tried skipping with a rope dipped in ink, and we realised this wasn’t distanced enough, but it left a really interesting embossed pattern within the paper. We then decided to make a machine where a drill was connected to a crate in order for it to stay still and there was a piece of rope attached to the drill so it would spin freely and create patterns, however it just winded on itself and didn’t make many marks. We then held one end of the rope and tried again, finally we just walked over the paper with the drill turned on. We installed it with the rope in the centre to demonstrate the process.
