Printing Machines

After being introduced to new printing techniques such as a carjack press, hydraulic press, and pinkysil prints we were asked to think about a new conceptually driven way to print using a substrate we had brought in. I brought in 2 towels, relating to the containment and capturing of water.

I exposed the screen with a small washcloth and an ink splatter that I had collected from around a sink in the bathroom

I then printed the image of the towel in light grey to communicate a sense of light vapour, because this was recommended when I presented the printed poles earlier

I then laid out the acetate to figure out where I wanted the droplets to sit, and I printed them in an even lighter shade of grey

I printed the droplets 3 times onto the larger towel, and this made it look wet or stained, which I think works well with my ideas.

I then printed the towel onto the pole using the same technique as earlier where I would roll a PVC pipe onto an exposed screen, and this transferred all the squared visible in the actual town, which didn’t appear on the paper which was very interesting.

This was the way in which I initially installed by work, I had the towels draped to feel more dynamic and natural, however this looked tight and sloppy, so I took Dane’s suggestion and hung them up next to the prints and spread out the poles.
