sound · further research

I have been reading see this sound, Audiovisuology compendium, an interdisciplinary survey of audiovisual culture by Dieter Daniels and Sandra Naumann, this has led me to the works of Oskar Fischinger, Len Lye

It has made me think about subterranean communication in relation to the human body and what the human body desires, and what is pleasurable to hear. Sounds we dont notice impact how we feel and I want to collect and glean these noises from not only tunnels but sounds that exist as autonomic processes. Exploring how they relate to imagery or materials, I am unsure weather I want this to be video or a physical material, but at this stage I feel as if I need something to support the sound existing on its own.

My contact microphone has arrived, and I will figure out how to use it over the weekend,

Since then I have tried to use it but I didnt have the right jack or amp to get it working, so I have gone to JB HIFI and loaned some stuff from cheqroom to get things sorted, but I don’t think I’ll have a work from my contact mic ready for my crit this week.

I want to create a video or an animation projected on a large scale looking at just some pieces of string moving around. I want the focus to be on the sound so I want the animation to be subtle and monochromatic, it will have a black background and there will just be a few lines moving around illuminated in white. Mainly drawing inspiration from Len Lye’s ideas of the ‘old brain’ and sounds that people are intrinsically drawn to I want to make a 2 and a half minute soundtrack that uses noises I have gleaned from noises around me. These include plumbing, electricity, echoes and traffic. I also want to see if I can find a way to record some bodily process like heartbeats or digestive noises.
